Message from Councilman Cohen's Office
On behalf of Council Member Cohen, thank you to everyone who participated in the inaugural cycle of Participatory Budgeting here in District 11 in 2014-2015. Whether you volunteered to help facilitate the process, suggested an idea for a project at a neighborhood assembly or cast a vote, your participation was why this initiative was so successful! We had almost two hundred ideas proposed and over 1,200 residents voted on how to spend $1 million here in our community. Some of the winning projects included renovations to the auditorium at the Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy, installation of bus countdown clocks throughout the district and renovations to the Van Cortlandt Library.
This year we are looking for even more ideas and working to get more people involved and I am asking for your help. Besides the efforts of our office, we are seeking to have a group of 10-15 committed community volunteers called the District Committee who will help facilitate and organize the 2015-2016 PB process. Along with our office, the district committee will help determine how PB should be implemented and constantly evaluate the process here in District 11. Specifically, these individuals will assist with finding and securing locations for PB meetings and events, work with community leaders and organizations to raise awareness and mobilize residents to participate in PB, and help facilitate PB meetings and events, among other responsibilities.
If you would like to volunteer to be a member of the 2015-2016 District Committee, please fill out the form and submit to me via email, fax or in person at our office. And please help us spread the word; forward this email and information about PB to your family, friends, neighbors and anyone who wants to help make a difference in our community. As always, if you have any questions about PB or any other community concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Regards,
Daniel A. Johnson
