Nina Seigenfeld's art opening "Running with Chalk" was a wonderful event. Our Gallery space was packed with friends and community members who came out to see Nina's work, and quite a few of the photographs were sold.
Nina Seigenfeld studied fine art with a concentration in painting at the School of Visual Arts. In 1983 she and Mario Fernandez co-founded The New Math Gallery which was one of the premier East Village galleries in the 1980s. She took a hiatus from the art world in order to raise her children. Since 2005 she has been actively curating exhibitions, making work on paper and exhibiting throughout the Tri State area.
"I make drawings and assemblages on the streets of the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn while I run. For the past several years I have been using the iPhone to document and share these images. I run with my eyes wide open. There is so much to see and share. Using the iPhone camera has given me the chance to hold on to images and make the temporary a little more permanent."
Thanks to Sarah Jane Cion and Lisa Maxwell for their lovely music. And thanks to everyone who came out.
Nina's exhibit will be up through August 16th.
