Since 2011, KRVC has organized summer movie nights in the communities of Riverdale and Woodlawn, as well as some in other parts of the broader Bronx area. These movies are held outside during the summer months and have been attended by hundreds of community members.
Our first Movie Night was held in September 2011 in Seton Park in Riverdale where we showed E.T.
In 2012, we held two movie nights: One in Seton Park in July where we showed Back to the Future, which was partially funded by a grant from Partnership for Parks; and one on the River in Riverdale at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in September where we showed Night at the Museum. This Movie Night was co-hosted by the College and by the Friends of Hudson River Greenway to promote Riverfront Programming in our Community.
In 2013, we held a Movie Night in Van Cortlandt Park in Woodlawn in June where we showed The Incredibles. That movie night was funded by Small Business Services grant and included a preview of our “Meet the Merchants” movie which was produced under that grant.
The rest of our summer 2013 and our 2014 movie series were made possible by a generous grant from State Senator Jeff Klein. Through this funding, KRVC purchased a 20 foot Movie Screen, which we debuted at our July 2013 movie night in Vinmont Park where we showed Mr. Poppers Penguins.
Owning our own movie screen and other expensive equipment brings with it the opportunity for us to use the equipment to reach as many people as we can in our and nearby communities: to bring them a special, community-building experience. Through our partnership with Senator Klein’s office, KRVC proudly branched out and hosted movie nights throughout the broader Bronx area in 2013 and 2014.
