2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Francisco Mela Trio -  Francisco Mela, an internationally acclaimed jazz drummer, is known for combining modern jazz with the traditional music he grew up with in Cuba.  Mela’s first CD, "Melao" was released in 2006 and called one of the best albums of the year by All About Jazz. Similarly, The Village Voice picked "Melao" as the best debut by an artist of ‘06. Mela's most recent release has received rave reviews: "Mela's music encompasses everything he has encountered, making the "Tree of Life" a sonic safari through the worldwide wilds of jazz and beyond." "Its Tree of Life's compositions and performances that really thrill. At times stoking straight ahead flames, other times seemingly aiming for Mwandishi-like fund and fusion." DownBeat. 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Robert Mitchell Quartet - Robert Mitchell has been a performing, touring, recording artist since 1975. With roots performing in all original bands: GLASS HOUSE and WILDLIFE and RAJA and CINEMATIK. Mitchell is currently leading the MITCHELL QUARTET. The core bass, drums, and guitar/vocals have been performing together in bands for over twenty years.
